Details

Wendy Jocko’s uncle and four great uncles served in WWI and her father and five uncles served in WWII. Wendy served for 23 years, including tours of duty in Bosnia and Croatia.
Wendy’s son served in the 1st Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment.

In Lynn Gehl’s book “Joseph Gagnon: An Algonquin World War I Veteran”, she recounts the story of her great-grandfather who, in exchange for his wartime service and sacrifices, found himself stripped of his rights as an Indigenous person, yet denied the rights accorded non-Indigenous veterans.
