Janet Uren, author of The Villagers: History of the People and Life of New Edinburgh, explores the surprising story that New Edinburgh, founded by Scots and Irish in 1829, had by the end of the century, a population one-third German. Between 1870 and 1900, the hard-working German community put down roots, built churches and schools and founded families. All was not always smooth-sailing.
