In February 1997, when the province announced its intention to close Montfort Hospital, the Harris government greatly underestimated the massive wave of protest that would erupt within Ottawa’s Francophone community and across Canada. Since then, Montfort Hospital has survived and thrived; it has served the community for over seventy years and is among the top 40 hospitals in Canada.
