The Day My Students Met Mandela: Nelson Mandela's Remarkable 1998 Visit to Ottawa

Evening Series
Free
Nelson Mandela

Guest Speaker

Wendy Alexis, Retired Teacher, Ottawa Catholic School Board

Details

On September 24, 1998, Nelson Mandela was joyously welcomed by Wendy's students when he visited Ottawa's Human Rights Monument on Elgin Street. Wendy's students, colourful maple branches clutched in their arms, were thrilled to have been chosen as part of the Youth Honour Guard to greet the great leader.

Find out what that incredible day meant to Wendy, her students, and the awestruck thousands who gathered to be in the presence of the legendary liberator of the South African peoples.

This speaker series will take place online via Zoom. All are welcome to attend without charge.

Here is the presentation by Wendy Alexis about the day Nelson Mandela visited Ottawa.
