POSTPONED: Hatpins & Defiance: The Battle in Ottawa Against Regulation 17

Postponed
Jean Yves Pelletier
Manifestation d'ecoliers'dans les rues d'Ottawa contre le Reglement 17

Guest Speaker:

JEAN YVES PELLETIER, Researcher, Franco-Ontarian History & Heritage

Details

Did the Ontario provincial government in 1912 realize the anger and defiance that would result when they passed legislation to outlaw French-language education in Ontario schools?

Could they have anticipated that two young sisters in Ottawa would defy the authorities and secretly continue to teach to Franco-Ontarian children in their mother tongue?

Could the government have predicted that outraged mothers and fathers of those students would surround the local school armed with hatpins, brooms, rolling pins and fry pans... and successfully fend off platoons of police for the sake of their children's education?

Join us and learn about his amazing story of passion and courage from Ottawa's past.

All are welcome to attend without charge.

Light refreshments will be served in the auditorium lobby starting at 12:30pm, with the talk to follow at 1:00pm.
