Story of famous aviator Charles Lindbergh, specifically regarding his visit to Ottawa just a few weeks after his record-breaking solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. The pamphlet provides details on Lindbergh’s meeting with Prime Minister Mackenzie King, and the death of one of Lindbergh’s escort pilots, Thad Johnson, on the way to Ottawa. Written by documentary filmmaker Joseph Temple who focused on aviation from the Second World War, and also wrote about President Franklin Roosevelt’s relationship with Ontario Premier Mitchell Hepburn over the issue of hydro-electric power at Niagara Falls during the Great Depression, and on Canadian-American relations regarding Prohibition. An account of the architectural firm started by John Bowes and continued by his son, James R. Bowes, with a brief history of Bytown and Ottawa at the time the firm was in business. Also a list and description of notable buildings designed by the architects. This pamphlet includes photos of buildings and of the Bowes, and an appendix which includes obituaries and census records regarding the subject architects. Written by Elizabeth V. Krug who worked for Library and Archives Canada from 1980 to 2001, working as photo cataloguer, art and photo registrar, loans and circulation coordinator. Krug studied Museum Technology at Algonquin College, has a degree in History of Art from Carleton University, and is an Associate of the Ontario College of Art and Design. Download ( pdf )
